The Memorial JK, located in the heart of Brasília, honors Juscelino Kubitschek (1902–1976), the former president who envisioned and built Brazil's capital. Designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, the memorial is a striking example of modernist architecture. It serves as a mausoleum, museum, and cultural center, offering visitors a comprehensive look into Kubitschek's life, work, and the construction of Brasília.The building itself is a truncated pyramid covered in white marble, featuring a concrete dome. A 28-meter high statue of Kubitschek, sculpted by Honório Peçanha, stands on a pedestal outside. Inside, exhibits include Kubitschek's tomb, personal belongings, photographs, and a reproduction of his library from his Rio de Janeiro apartment. Visitors can also see the presidential sash and the 1974 Ford Galaxie LTD he last used. The memorial also has an auditorium for events and documentaries.The memorial's history is intertwined with Kubitschek's legacy and the efforts of his widow, Sarah Kubitschek, to create a lasting tribute. It was inaugurated on September 12, 1981, becoming one of Brasília's most visited monuments. The site is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 AM to 6 PM.
