Discover more about Caminho Niemeyer

Caminho Niemeyer, or the Niemeyer Path, is an architectural complex and cultural center of immense architectural value, designed by Oscar Niemeyer in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. Stretching for 11 kilometers along the city's coastline, from the Center to Charitas, this path revitalized the city's waterfront along Guanabara Bay. The project began in January 2002, creating the second-largest collection of Niemeyer's work after Brasília. The Caminho Niemeyer currently includes nine finished projects, sculptures, and some projects that have not been executed. Key highlights include the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum (MAC), Teatro Popular, and the Roberto Silveira Memorial. The architectural ensemble has transformed Niterói's waterfront into a series of postcards, with the MAC standing out. Visitors can explore iconic structures such as the Popular Theater, the Roberto Silveira Memorial, and the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation building. The Roberto Silveira Memorial houses a center for the history and literature of Rio de Janeiro, with over 200,000 digitized works, an event auditorium, and a panel by artist Claudio Valério Teixeira. The Oscar Niemeyer Foundation is divided into two blocks built over a reflecting pool. The complex promotes art and culture with buildings that, along with the MAC, form a path along the coast. The Caminho Niemeyer is more than just a collection of buildings; it's a vibrant public space where art, culture, and leisure converge. The site often hosts cultural events and performances, so checking the schedule ahead of your visit is a good idea.
