The island is home to the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem, built in the 17th century. The chapel was destroyed during the French invasion in 1711 and rebuilt in 1780 in a neoclassical style. In addition to its religious significance, the island also held a military function as part of the Brazilian defense system, with fortifications dating back to the late 16th century. Today, Ilha da Boa Viagem is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, offering free admission.
