Cascata da Usina Velha is a stunning waterfall located in the countryside of Veranópolis, Rio Grande do Sul. This hidden gem, approximately 6 km from the city center, is formed by the old dam of the Retiro River. The waterfall has two longitudinal drops, one of 7 meters and another of 6 meters. Historically, the site housed the first power generation plant in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, inaugurated in 1912. The plant powered the Vila Alfredo Chaves with 108 lamps, marking a significant milestone in the region's development. Today, the ruins of this old plant add a historical touch to the natural beauty of the area. Visitors can enjoy a short 5-minute walk along a trail to reach the base of the waterfall. The trail passes through native forest and uneven terrain. The waterfall forms a natural pool that is great for swimming.
