Discover more about Parque Moinhos de Vento (Parcão)

Parque Moinhos de Vento, or Parcão as it's lovingly called, is a verdant oasis in the heart of Porto Alegre. Located in the sophisticated Moinhos de Vento neighborhood, this park offers a refreshing escape from the urban hustle. Its name, meaning "Windmills Park," harkens back to the 18th century when Antônio Martins Barbosa, a miner from Minas Gerais, established a windmill in the area. Before becoming a park in 1972, the area was home to the Independência racetrack, a popular turf venue in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, Parcão provides a diverse range of leisure activities. Visitors can stroll along its trails, admire the replica of an Azorean windmill, or relax by the picturesque pond, which is home to fish, turtles, ducks, and geese. The park also features sports fields for soccer, tennis, and volleyball, as well as fitness equipment and playgrounds for children. A monument commemorating Castelo Branco adds a historical touch. Parcão is more than just a park; it's a community hub where locals gather to walk, jog, play sports, and socialize. The park also has a library for children. Keep an eye out for the "I Love PoA" sign, a great spot for taking photos.
