Discover more about Lumut Lighthouse

The Lumut Lighthouse (Malay: Rumah Api Lumut) is more than just a navigational aid; it's a symbol of Brunei's commitment to maritime safety and a prominent feature of the Lumut coastline. Situated in Kampong Sungai Kayu Ara, it overlooks Lumut Beach and the South China Sea, providing breathtaking panoramic views. Completed in November 2004 and inaugurated in March 2005, the lighthouse stands 32 meters (105 ft) tall and is painted in red, white, and blue. Its modern light-emitting diode lighting emits three white flashes every 15 seconds, with a range of 45 kilometers (28 mi). The lighthouse serves as a crucial navigational aid for ships heading toward Lumut, guiding them safely west of the entrance to Brunei Bay. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the lighthouse, taking in the scenic views and appreciating the area's natural beauty. The site is particularly popular during sunset, offering photographers a chance to capture stunning images of the lighthouse against the colorful sky. While the tower itself is generally closed to the public, the surrounding area provides a tranquil environment for relaxation and reflection. The Lumut Lighthouse not only represents Brunei’s rich maritime legacy but also stands as a symbol of safety and guidance for seafarers.
