Discover more about Billionth Barrel Monument

The Billionth Barrel Monument, located in Seria, Brunei, marks a pivotal moment in the nation's history: the production of its billionth barrel of crude oil. Officially unveiled on May 8, 2004, by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the monument commemorates the 75th anniversary of Brunei's oil and gas industry. Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) commissioned the landmark, which marks the production milestone achieved on July 18, 1991. The structure features five pipes forming an arch, crowned with a gilded coat of arms, symbolizing the Five Pillars of Islam. Copper panels along the walkway depict the history of oil and gas exploration in Brunei. Visitors can also see oil pumps and drilling equipment. The site provides insights into Brunei's oil production history and its impact on the economy and culture. The monument is surrounded by parks and gardens, offering a peaceful atmosphere. The monument also provides a view of the South China Sea and the offshore oil rigs.
