The Samara Flag Monument, also known as the Defenders of Stara Zagora Memorial Complex, is a poignant tribute to Bulgarian bravery and resilience. Erected on Chadar Mogila hill, the monument commemorates the 100th anniversary of the battles for Stara Zagora during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. The 50-meter tall structure represents the Samara Flag, a revered military symbol presented to Bulgarian volunteers by the city of Samara, Russia.The memorial complex includes sculptures of six soldiers from the Bulgarian Volunteer Corps and a Russian officer, symbolizing the combined forces.     From the central bus station in Stara Zagora, take bus number 1 or 12 towards 'Branitelite Na Zagorka'. Get off at the 'Branitelite Na Zagorka' stop. From there, walk south along the main road; the monument will be visible ahead. Bus tickets cost approximately 1 lev, purchasable on the bus.

    If starting from Branitelite Na Zagorka square, walk straight along the main road. The walk takes about 15-20 minutes. The monument is well-signposted and visible from a distance.

    Car

    From Stara Zagora city center, head southeast on ul. 'Tsar Simeon' towards ul. 'General Gurko'. Continue onto ul. 'Branitelite Na Zagorka' for approximately 5 km. The Samara Flag Monument will be on the right. Parking is available near the monument.
