Stalbitsata Cave, located near the village of Karpachevo in Bulgaria, offers a unique and somewhat adventurous experience for visitors. The cave is known for its distinctive shape, resembling an inverted funnel, and the metal staircase that descends into its depths. This staircase, installed in 2010, replaced an earlier wooden ladder and gives the cave its name, which translates to 'Staircase Cave'.The entrance to Stalbitsata Cave is marked by a small sign amidst overgrown vegetation. Descending the metal staircase into the cave is often likened to entering another world, with the temperature dropping noticeably. The main chamber is a semi-circular space, naturally lit by sunlight streaming through the opening above. This creates a dramatic interplay of light and shadow, especially when mist forms due to evaporating water on the cave floor. While the cave is freely accessible, it remains semi-wild, with no established trails or artificial lighting beyond the entrance chamber. Exploring beyond the main chamber requires a good light source and caution. The cave features various formations, though it's advisable to have an experienced guide for thorough exploration.
