Stalbitsata Cave: A Stairway to the Underworld

Stalbitsata Cave, located near the village of Karpachevo in Bulgaria, offers a unique and somewhat adventurous experience for visitors. This staircase, installed in 2010, replaced an earlier wooden ladder and gives the cave its name, which translates to 'Staircase Cave'.The entrance to Stalbitsata Cave is marked by a small sign amidst overgrown vegetation. Descending the metal staircase into the cave is often likened to entering another world, with the temperature dropping noticeably. The main chamber is a semi-circular space, naturally lit by sunlight streaming through the opening above.
