Getting There

  • Walking

    Starting from the center of Gitega, head southeast on Avenue de la Réunification towards Avenue du Commerce. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Avenue de l'Indépendance. Turn right onto Avenue de l'Indépendance and walk for about 1 km until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Avenue du 28 Novembre. Follow this road for approximately 2 km, passing by local shops and small eateries. Keep an eye out for signs pointing towards Gasasa. After 2 km, take a left onto a smaller road leading towards Gasasa. Continue on this road for about 1.5 km until you reach a fork. Take the right fork, which will lead you closer to Mountain Kamaranyundo. Walk approximately 1 km uphill, and you should see the mountain in front of you. The entrance to the site is marked by a small sign.

    From the main square in Gitega, rent a bicycle and head towards Avenue de la Réunification. Cycle southeast until you reach Avenue de l'Indépendance. Turn right and pedal along this avenue for about 1 km. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Avenue du 28 Novembre. Continue cycling for about 2 km, enjoying the local scenery. When you reach the fork leading to Gasasa, take the left turn. Proceed along this road for about 1.5 km. When you reach another fork, take the right path and continue cycling uphill for about 1 km. You will reach the base of Mountain Kamaranyundo. You can lock your bike at the nearby facilities.

    From the Gitega main bus station, look for a minibus heading towards Gasasa. Board the minibus and inform the driver that you want to get off at the stop for Gasasa. The journey will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Once you arrive in Gasasa, ask locals for directions to Mountain Kamaranyundo, as it is a known landmark. You will need to walk from the drop-off point, which is about 1.5 km away. Head towards the hill, and you will see the path leading up to the mountain. Local residents can guide you if you need assistance.
