The Living Museum of Bujumbura (Musée Vivant de Bujumbura) is a unique attraction that combines a zoo and a museum, offering visitors a captivating insight into Burundi's culture and environment. Founded in 1977, the museum aims to preserve and promote Burundi's natural and cultural heritage while serving as an educational and recreational center. The zoo houses a collection of animals typical of Burundi and the Great Lakes region. As of December 2016, the zoo included six crocodiles, a monkey, a leopard, two chimpanzees, three guinea fowls, a tortoise, and an antelope, alongside a number of snakes and fish. The museum also features a reconstruction of a traditional Burundian house (rugo) and workshops where local artisans showcase their crafts.
