Discover more about Disneyland Monorail

The Disneyland Monorail, which first opened on June 14, 1959, stands as a testament to Walt Disney's vision of the future. As the first daily operating monorail system in the Western Hemisphere, it quickly became an iconic symbol of Disneyland. Originally designed by Disney designer Bob Gurr and assisted by Alweg, the German company that pioneered straddle beam monorails, the Monorail was intended to be a practical transport method of the future. Over the years, the Monorail has undergone several transformations. The current Mark VII trains, in red, blue, and orange, blend the sleek aesthetics of the 1959 classic with contemporary technologies. The 2.5-mile, 13-minute round-trip journey offers unique views of Disneyland Park, including Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, as well as glimpses of Disney California Adventure Park, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and the Downtown Disney District. The Disneyland Monorail offers two stations: one in Tomorrowland inside Disneyland Park, and another in the Downtown Disney District. For guests with valid theme park admission, the Downtown Disney District station provides a direct route into Tomorrowland, bypassing the Main Entrance. The Monorail operates approximately every 10 minutes, providing a convenient and memorable experience.
