If you are driving to Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, start by getting on I-5 N from your current location. Continue on I-5 N for approximately 30 miles. Take exit 172 for Lake Hughes Rd. and turn right onto Lake Hughes Rd. Follow Lake Hughes Rd. for about 2 miles until it intersects with Castaic Lake Dr. Turn left onto Castaic Lake Dr. and follow it for another 2 miles until you reach the entrance to Castaic Lake State Recreation Area. Note that there is a parking fee of $12 for day use, which you can pay at the entrance.

To reach Castaic Lake State Recreation Area via public transportation, first take a bus to the nearest station that connects to the Metrolink train service. Use the Metrolink service to reach the nearest station, which is the Santa Clarita station. From there, you can catch a local bus (such as the Santa Clarita Transit Line 6) that takes you closer to Castaic Lake. Ensure to check the bus schedule in advance as services may be limited. Once you get off the bus, you may need to walk approximately 1 mile to the entrance of Castaic Lake State Recreation Area. Be aware that the total cost of this journey may vary, with the bus and train fares combined.
