Hollywood's story began in the late 19th century when Harvey Wilcox, a prohibitionist, and his wife Daeida purchased land and envisioned a sober, religious community. Daeida is credited with naming Hollywood. However, it was H.J. Whitley, known as the "Father of Hollywood," who transformed it into a wealthy residential area, bringing essential infrastructure like telephone, electric, and gas lines. Hollywood was incorporated as a municipality in 1903 and merged with Los Angeles in 1910. Visitors can explore the Hollywood Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre, and Dolby Theatre, home of the Academy Awards. Griffith Observatory offers stunning views of the city and the Hollywood Sign.
