    Founded in 1975, L.A. Louver has been a cornerstone of the Venice, California, art community for nearly five decades. The gallery is committed to contemporary art, featuring a distinguished program of exhibitions by both Los Angeles-based and international artists. L.A. Louver has showcased an array of contemporary art, including works by David Hockney, who first exhibited at the gallery in 1978. The gallery has also presented the Postwar paintings of Leon Kossoff, the tableau and assemblage works of Edward and Nancy Kienholz, and artworks by Alison Saar and Gajin Fujita. The gallery's 8,000-square-foot building, designed by architect Frederick Fisher, provides ample space for its exhibitions. In 2025, L.A. Louver celebrated its 50th anniversary with a retrospective exhibition featuring works from over 50 artists who have been part of the gallery's history. The exhibition reflected the gallery's role in shaping Los Angeles' contemporary art scene. L.A. Louver remains on the same block as its original 1970s location.
