    From your location in Castro Valley, head to the nearest bus stop. You can catch the AC Transit bus line 30 or 31 towards the Bay Fair BART station. Ride the bus for approximately 20-25 minutes until you reach the Bay Fair BART station. From there, purchase a BART ticket to San Francisco. Board a BART train heading towards the Embarcadero and ride for about 30 minutes. At the Embarcadero station, transfer to the Muni Metro light rail. Take the T line towards Sunnydale, and get off at the Civic Center station. Finally, transfer to the 38 Geary bus line, which will take you directly to Japantown. The entire journey may take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on wait times.

    Begin at the Castro Valley BART station, located at 3300 Castro Valley Blvd. Take a BART train heading west towards San Francisco. You'll want to stay on the train for about 30 minutes and disembark at the Powell Street Station. From Powell Street, exit the station and walk towards Market Street. Catch the 38 Geary bus on Market Street by heading towards the bus stop at the corner of Powell and Market. Board the bus and ride for approximately 15-20 minutes until you reach Japantown.
