Public Bus
From Costa Mesa, head to the nearest bus stop and catch the OCTA Route 1 or Route 47. Make sure to check the schedule for the next bus times. Ride the bus heading towards Newport Beach. Get off at the stop for Balboa Island, which is typically near the Balboa Peninsula. From there, walk towards the Balboa Ferry terminal, which will take you across to Balboa Island. The ferry is a short ride and offers beautiful views of the harbor.
Bicycle
If you're up for a ride, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Costa Mesa. Start by heading west on W 19th St until you reach Harbor Blvd. Turn left and continue until you reach Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Turn right onto PCH and follow the signs for Balboa Island. Look for bike lanes along the way. Once you reach the Balboa Peninsula, follow signs to the Balboa Ferry, which will take you across to Balboa Island.
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous and want to walk, start from central Costa Mesa and head towards the nearest major intersection to catch a bus or begin your walk towards the beach. Walk west towards the Pacific Coast Highway, which is approximately 2 miles away. Once you reach PCH, turn right and walk along the waterfront until you reach the Balboa Peninsula. From there, look for the Balboa Ferry to take you to Balboa Island.
