Getting There

Bus
To get to San Juan Capistrano from Costa Mesa, start at the Costa Mesa Transit Center located at 695 W 19th St, Costa Mesa, CA 92627. From there, catch the OCTA Bus Route 57 towards the South Coast Plaza. Ride for about 10 minutes and get off at the South Coast Plaza stop. Transfer to Route 191, which heads towards San Juan Capistrano. After approximately 40 minutes, you will arrive at the San Juan Capistrano stop. From there, it is a short walk to the main attractions in the city.

Begin your journey at the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, which is accessible via local buses or a short taxi ride from Costa Mesa. Take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train towards San Diego. The train ride will take about 30 minutes. Disembark at the San Juan Capistrano station. From the station, it’s a pleasant 15-minute walk to the historic downtown area where you can explore the mission and other attractions.

Bicycle
If you prefer biking, you can rent a bicycle from a local shop in Costa Mesa. Start your ride on Adams Ave heading east until you reach Newport Blvd. Turn left on Newport Blvd and follow it until you reach the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Continue along the PCH, which will eventually lead you to San Juan Capistrano. The ride is approximately 12 miles and may take around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your speed and stops along the way.
