Bus
To reach San Mateo Campground from central Costa Mesa, head to the nearest bus stop at the Costa Mesa Transit Center located at 650 W 19th St. Take the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Bus Route 1 towards San Clemente. Stay on the bus for approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Get off at the 'Cristianitos Rd - San Mateo' stop. From there, walk east on Cristianitos Rd for about 10 minutes until you reach the campground entrance at 830 Cristianitos Rd, San Clemente, CA 92672.
Bicycle
For a more active route, you can rent a bicycle from a local rental shop in Costa Mesa. Start your journey by heading south on Newport Blvd. After approximately 5 miles, turn right onto Pacific Coast Hwy (CA-1) and continue for about 8 miles. Once you reach Cristianitos Rd, turn left and bike east for about 1 mile until you arrive at San Mateo Campground. Make sure to follow bike lanes and adhere to traffic signals along the route.
Walking
If you enjoy walking and have the time, start your journey from central Costa Mesa by heading south on Newport Blvd. Continue walking for about 5 miles until you reach the intersection with Pacific Coast Hwy (CA-1). Turn right and walk along the highway for roughly 8 miles, enjoying the coastal views. When you reach Cristianitos Rd, turn left and walk for about 1 more mile to reach San Mateo Campground at 830 Cristianitos Rd, San Clemente, CA 92672. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated!
