Public Bus
To get to San Onofre State Beach from central Costa Mesa, head to the nearest bus stop on 19th Street and Newport Boulevard. Catch the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Route 1 bus heading southbound towards San Clemente. Stay on the bus for about 30-40 minutes until you reach the San Clemente Pier stop. From there, you can either walk or take the Route 191 shuttle, which will take you closer to the beach area. The beach is a short walk from the shuttle stop.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer a more active route, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Costa Mesa. Once you have your bike, head south on Newport Boulevard towards Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Turn left onto PCH and continue south until you reach Old Pacific Highway. This route is approximately 12 miles and offers beautiful coastal views. As you reach Old Pacific Highway, follow the signs to San Onofre State Beach.
Rideshare Service (Uber/Lyft)
For a convenient and direct option, use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft. Open the app and enter 'San Onofre State Beach, Old Pacific Highway, San Clemente, CA' as your destination. The ride will take approximately 25-30 minutes from Costa Mesa, depending on traffic. Make sure to wait in a designated rideshare pickup area at your location.
