Nestled within the expansive San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge, the Beckwith Wildlife Observation Area offers a serene and captivating experience for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers alike. The Beckwith Wildlife Observation Area, typically open from mid-October through mid-March, is an elevated platform that allows visitors to observe the refuge's seasonal wetlands and agricultural fields. These fields are intentionally planted with corn each summer to provide sustenance for wintering geese and sandhill cranes. From this vantage point, one can witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of thousands of Aleutian cackling geese, which were brought back from the brink of extinction thanks to dedicated conservation efforts.
