Completed in 2002, this modern cathedral replaced the earthquake-damaged Cathedral of Saint Vibiana. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Rafael Moneo, its unique postmodern design incorporates acute and obtuse angles, eschewing traditional right angles. Inside, visitors are greeted by soaring spaces illuminated by alabaster windows, showcasing contemporary art and a vast collection of tapestries depicting saints from around the world. The Cathedral also houses a mausoleum with crypts and a relic of the tilma of Saint Juan Diego, making it a significant religious and cultural center. If driving, the Cathedral is located at 555 W Temple Street, between Grand and Hill Streets. The entrance to the Cathedral parking structure is located on the west side of Hill Street and on Temple. Parking rates are $4.00 every 15 minutes, with a daily maximum of $25.00 on weekdays. On Saturdays, the flat fee is $12.00. On Sundays, parking is free for 3 hours with attendance at a regularly scheduled Mass, followed by a flat fee of $12.00 starting at 1:30 PM.
