    Discover more about Mission Beach

Mission Beach, a vibrant community in San Diego, is nestled on a sandbar between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay. This lively beach town offers a classic boardwalk experience with nearly two miles of oceanfront attractions. Established in 1914, Mission Beach was one of the last of San Diego's beach communities to be developed. John D. Spreckels and George L. Barney spearheaded its creation, envisioning a bustling seaside resort. Spreckels later constructed the Mission Beach Amusement Center in 1925, now known as Belmont Park, to boost real estate interest. Today, Mission Beach is famous for its array of activities. Belmont Park, a historic amusement park, features the Giant Dipper, a wooden rollercoaster designated as a National Historic Landmark. Visitors can also enjoy bumper cars, arcades, and traditional amusement park games. The beach itself is perfect for surfing, swimming, and beach volleyball. The boardwalk is a hub of activity, with locals and tourists alike enjoying bike rides, skateboarding, and leisurely strolls. South Mission Beach offers a more relaxed atmosphere with a wider beach, ideal for sunbathing and beach volleyball. The jetty at the south end is a popular spot for fishing and watching boats enter and exit the harbor channel. With its lively atmosphere and diverse attractions, Mission Beach continues to captivate visitors year after year.
