Mission San Juan Capistrano, a historic landmark and museum, is considered the birthplace of Orange County. Founded on November 1, 1776, by Spanish Catholics of the Franciscan Order, it was the seventh of 21 missions established in California. The mission is named for Saint John of Capistrano, a 15th-century theologian and warrior priest. The mission served as a self-sufficient community built by Spanish Padres and Native Americans and became a center for agriculture, industry, education, and religion. Today, it stands as a monument to California's multi-cultural history, embracing its Native American, Spanish, Mexican, and European heritage. Train
The Amtrak and Metrolink train station is located just two blocks from Mission San Juan Capistrano. From the station, walk south on Verdugo Street, then turn right onto Ortega Highway. The Mission will be on your right. A one-way train ticket from Los Angeles to San Juan Capistrano costs between $7 and $60. Parking at the train station costs $2 per hour or $12 for all-day parking.

Driving
From Interstate 5, take the Ortega Highway exit. Head east on Ortega Highway and turn right onto Old Mission Road. The Mission will be on your right. Public parking is available on the surrounding streets. The most visible parking lot is on the south side of Old Mission Road and El Camino Real. Be sure to read posted signage for any parking restrictions.
