Discover more about Greystone Mansion & Gardens: The Doheny Estate

Greystone Mansion & Gardens, a majestic Tudor Revival mansion, sits nestled in the Trousdale Estates of Beverly Hills. Completed in 1928, it was a gift from oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny to his son, Edward "Ned" Doheny Jr. and his family. The mansion and its grounds, now a city park, offer visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the early 20th century. The 18.5-acre estate features meticulously maintained formal English gardens, including a centerpiece fountain, and a pool and inner courtyard area open to the public. Designed by architect Gordon Kaufmann, the 55-room mansion boasts steel-reinforced concrete faced with Indiana limestone and a Welsh slate roof. Landscape architect Paul G. Thiene incorporated Gothic and Neoclassical styles into the terraced gardens. Greystone has a storied past, including the tragic murder-suicide of Ned Doheny and his secretary just months after the family moved in. Later, the City of Beverly Hills purchased the property in 1965, opening it as a public park in 1971. The mansion has also served as a filming location for numerous movies and television shows, adding to its allure. Today, visitors can explore the gardens, attend special events, and tour the mansion's first floor and theatre on select dates.
