Santa Monica, located on the Santa Monica Bay and surrounded by the city of Los Angeles, has evolved from its roots as part of the Rancho San Vicente y Santa Mónica. Founded in 1875 by Senator John P. Jones and Robert Baker, the city quickly gained popularity as a seaside resort in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
