    Discover more about Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain was a captivating log flume adventure that immersed visitors in the whimsical tales of Br'er Rabbit and his pals. Based on the animated segments of Disney's *Song of the South*, the ride featured a combination of gentle floating through colorful scenes and thrilling plunges, all set to catchy tunes. The journey began with a leisurely float through the backwoods, passing by animatronic critters who were always up to something. As the logs meandered through the mountain, riders encountered Br'er Rabbit as he tried to outsmart Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear. The anticipation built as the logs ascended the final lift hill, offering a panoramic view of Critter Country before the exhilarating 52.5-foot drop into the briar patch below. Splash Mountain was conceived in 1983 by Imagineer Tony Baxter, who sought to revitalize the then-underdeveloped Bear Country. Repurposing Audio-Animatronics figures from the shuttered *America Sings* attraction helped to populate the ride with its cast of critters. Originally planned to be named Zip-a-Dee River Run, then-CEO Michael Eisner suggested the name *Splash Mountain* to capitalize on the success of the movie *Splash*. The ride officially opened on July 17, 1989, coinciding with Disneyland's 34th anniversary. In June 2020, Disney announced that Splash Mountain would be rethemed to *Tiana's Bayou Adventure*, based on the 2009 film *The Princess and the Frog*. The Disneyland version of Splash Mountain closed on May 31, 2023, with its successor, Tiana's Bayou Adventure, scheduled to open on November 15, 2024.
