Discover more about Drop Tower

Drop Tower: Scream Zone is an exhilarating drop tower ride located in the California's Great America amusement park in Santa Clara. Riders are strapped into open cars with dangling feet and slowly ascend 225 feet into the air. The ascent takes about 35 seconds, offering views of the South Bay on a clear day. Once at the top, riders pause briefly before plunging 20 stories in a free fall. The ride reaches speeds of up to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. After the initial drop, brakes kick in to slow the car before returning to the bottom. Originally named Drop Zone: Stunt Tower, the ride opened on March 16, 1996, with a theme based on the film 'Drop Zone'. In 2008, it was renamed Drop Tower: Scream Zone. In 2019, the tower was repainted with a brown and green color scheme inspired by California's redwood trees.
