Discover more about Ocean Beach Pier

The Ocean Beach Pier is a beloved landmark that offers a quintessential San Diego experience. Opened on July 2, 1966, the pier was originally named the San Diego Fishing Pier and was built to give locals a place to fish without dealing with shoreline rocks and kelp. Stretching 1,971 feet into the Pacific, it is one of the longest concrete piers on the West Coast. For many years, the pier has been a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. It's a spot for fishing, strolling, and taking in panoramic ocean views. The pier's T-shaped end, with extensions of 360 feet to the south and 193 feet to the north, provides ample space for anglers and sightseers. Fishing is a popular activity, and a fishing license is not required to fish from the pier. The pier has faced challenges over the years, including damage from storms and high surf. Due to this damage, the pier is currently closed. Despite the closure, the pier remains a significant part of the Ocean Beach community, and plans are underway for a replacement.
