Discover more about Powerhouse Park

Powerhouse Park, situated along the scenic coastline of Del Mar, California, is a vibrant and historically rich destination. This park, named for its original function as a powerhouse for the Stratford Inn in 1928, has evolved into a central gathering place for both locals and tourists. The park boasts a large grassy area ideal for picnics, sunbathing, and enjoying the panoramic ocean views. A playground caters to children of all ages, while accessible pathways ensure everyone can enjoy the park's amenities. The park also features public restrooms, showers, and water fountains for added convenience. Powerhouse Park has a fascinating history. After the Del Mar Hotel faced bankruptcy in 1955, the powerhouse was transformed into a nightclub called the Powerhouse Roaring '20s. Later, it served as a desalination plant before the City of Del Mar purchased the property in 1983. After a 17-year restoration effort, the Powerhouse Community Center was created, winning an Orchid Award for Design from the San Diego Architectural Foundation in 2000. Today, Powerhouse Park hosts various events, including summer twilight concerts and community gatherings. Its blend of natural beauty, recreational facilities, and historical significance makes it a must-visit destination in Del Mar.
