    From downtown San Mateo, walk to the nearest Caltrain station, which is located at 1 Railroad Ave, San Mateo. Board a northbound Caltrain towards San Francisco. Ride the train for about 30 minutes and get off at the 4th and King Station in San Francisco. Once you exit the station, transfer to the Muni T-line streetcar. Board the T-line and ride for approximately 30 minutes to the 'Zoo' stop, which is close to the San Francisco Zoo entrance at Sloat Blvd & Upper Great Hwy.

    From downtown San Mateo, head to the SamTrans bus stop at the corner of 3rd Ave and B St. Take the SamTrans Route 292 bus heading towards San Francisco. Ride the bus for about 45 minutes, which will take you directly to the San Francisco Zoo. The bus will stop near the zoo entrance at Sloat Blvd & Upper Great Hwy.

    If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bike from a local shop in San Mateo. Start your ride towards the Bay Trail, which you can access from any point in San Mateo.
