Public Transport - Bus
From your location in San Mateo, walk to the nearest bus stop that services SamTrans buses. You can take the SamTrans Route 292 towards San Francisco. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes, enjoying the views along the way. Get off at the 'Mission St & 1st St' stop in San Francisco. From there, transfer to the Muni 39 bus towards 'San Francisco - Bayview-Hunters Point'. After a short ride, get off at 'Telegraph Hill' stop. Walk a few minutes up the hill to reach the base of Telegraph Hill.
Public Transport - Train
Walk to the San Mateo Caltrain Station located at 2nd Avenue and East 4th Avenue. Take the Caltrain towards San Francisco. The ride will take about 30 minutes. Get off at the '4th and King St' station in San Francisco. From there, transfer to the Muni Metro N-Judah line towards 'Ocean Beach'. Get off at 'Embarcadero Station'. From the station, walk towards the waterfront and head north along the Embarcadero until you reach the base of Telegraph Hill. The hill will be ahead of you.
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous and are staying near the downtown area, you can walk to the San Francisco Bay Trail. Follow the trail towards the north for a scenic route along the bay. Continue until you reach the base of Telegraph Hill. The walk will take about 1.5 hours and offers beautiful views of the bay and city skyline.
