From downtown Santa Barbara, head south on State Street towards the ocean. Continue onto Cabrillo Boulevard and walk west. West Beach will be on your right, between Stearns Wharf and the Santa Barbara Harbor. This is a straightforward, scenic walk with no additional costs.

From Santa Barbara Airport (SBA), take the MTD Line 11 bus towards downtown. Get off at the Carrillo & Bath stop. From there, walk towards the beach. The beach will be to your right. The bus fare is approximately $1-2.

West Beach is a bustling 7.5-acre beach in Santa Barbara, California, offering a wide array of activities and historical significance. Situated conveniently between Stearns Wharf and the Santa Barbara Harbor, it serves as a central hub for both recreation and relaxation. Historically, the area was home to the Chumash Native American people from around 1000 A.D. to the mid-1800s. The West Beach area also saw the rise and fall of the Potter Hotel, a luxury resort that burned down in 1921, later replaced by smaller hotels and residences. Today, the proposed West Beach Historic District represents the residential and tourist development along the waterfront from 1900 through 1950.
Today, visitors can enjoy various water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing, and paddleboarding. The sandy coastline is perfect for sunbathing, beach volleyball, and building sandcastles.
