The Richard J. Riordan Central Library, located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, stands as a testament to the city's commitment to knowledge and culture. The library is housed in two buildings: the original Goodhue Building, completed in 1926, and the Tom Bradley Wing, an addition from 1993. The Goodhue Building, designed by Bertram Goodhue, showcases a unique blend of Art Deco, ancient Egyptian, and Mediterranean Revival architectural styles. Its iconic features include a tiled mosaic pyramid tower topped with a torch symbolizing the "Light of Learning", as well as sphinxes and celestial mosaics. The interior boasts a stunning rotunda with murals by Dean Cornwell depicting California history and a Zodiac Chandelier. The Bradley Wing surrounds a spacious atrium featuring sculptural chandeliers by Therman Statom. The library offers a wide range of resources and services, including subject departments with millions of books, magazine subscriptions, photographs, and multimedia materials. Visitors can explore various sections such as the Children's Department, Teenscape, and the International Languages room. The library also hosts exhibitions in the Getty Gallery and First Floor Galleries, as well as events in the Taper Auditorium. Free computer access and Wi-Fi are available.
