Public Bus
From anywhere in Santa Monica, locate a Big Blue Bus stop. If you are near the Santa Monica Pier, find the bus stop on Ocean Avenue. Take the Big Blue Bus Line 7 towards 'Westwood'. Ride for about 30 minutes and get off at the 'Wilshire / Westwood' stop. Transfer to the Metro Bus Line 720 towards 'North Hollywood'. Ride for approximately 25 minutes, then get off at 'Vermont / Sunset'. From there, you can either walk 15 minutes to the Griffith Observatory or take the DASH Observatory Shuttle.
Biking
If you prefer to bike, rent a bike from one of the many bike rental shops in Santa Monica. Head east on Santa Monica Boulevard towards West Hollywood. Continue on Santa Monica Boulevard until you reach Vermont Avenue. Turn left on Vermont Avenue and follow it north until you reach Griffith Park. The observatory will be on your right; the entire trip is about 9 miles and should take around 40 minutes.
Walking
If you're up for a hike, you can walk to Griffith Park. Start at Third Street Promenade and head east towards Santa Monica Boulevard. Walk along Santa Monica Boulevard until you reach Vermont Avenue. Turn left on Vermont Avenue and continue north. This route is about 8 miles and will take approximately 2 hours. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the walk can be long!
Rideshare
For a more direct route, consider using a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft. Open the app and set your destination to 'Griffith Observatory, 2800 E Observatory Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90027'. The ride will take about 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. This option is convenient if you prefer not to navigate public transport.
