Discover more about Walt Disney Concert Hall

The Walt Disney Concert Hall, an iconic landmark in downtown Los Angeles, is more than just a concert venue; it's a testament to architectural innovation and a celebration of the arts. Designed by Frank Gehry and opened in 2003, the hall's sweeping stainless steel exterior resembles billowing sails, making it a striking addition to the city's skyline. Lillian Disney, Walt Disney's widow, provided the initial gift of $50 million in 1987 to create a performance space as a gift to the people of Los Angeles and a tribute to Walt Disney's devotion to the arts. Inside, the concert hall continues to impress with its warm wood interior and vineyard-style seating, which brings the audience closer to the orchestra. The hall seats 2,265 people and is designed to create an intimate connection between the orchestra and the audience. The acoustics, designed by Yasuhisa Toyota, are world-renowned, ensuring an exceptional listening experience from every seat. A dominant feature is the 6,134-pipe organ designed by Gehry in collaboration with Manuel Rosales. The 3.6-acre complex includes the Blue Ribbon Garden, a serene escape with a rose-shaped fountain as a tribute to Lillian Disney, the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation Atrium Hall, a gift shop and cafe, and the W.M. Keck Foundation Children's Amphitheater. The complex also houses REDCAT, the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater. Guided and self-guided audio tours are available for visitors to explore the building's architecture, history, and design.
