Board the bus heading towards the Murrieta area. You will need to transfer at the Murrieta Town Square (approximately 20 minutes). Once there, switch to bus number 202 towards San Clemente. Stay on this bus for about 45 minutes until you reach the San Clemente Transit Center. From the Transit Center, you can either take a rideshare service or a local taxi to San Mateo Campground, which is approximately 3 miles away.

If you prefer biking, you can rent a bicycle from a local shop in Temecula. Start at the Temecula Valley Bicycle Shop located at 42073 4th St, Temecula, CA. After renting your bike, head south on 4th St towards the Temecula Parkway. Continue on Temecula Parkway until you reach I-15 N. Follow the bike lane to merge onto the bike route leading towards San Clemente. This route will take approximately 1.5 hours, and you will enjoy scenic views along the way. Upon reaching San Clemente, navigate towards Cristianitos Rd where San Mateo Campground is located.

If you are up for a long hike, start at the Temecula Valley Historical Museum (located at 28314 Mercedes St, Temecula, CA). Head south on Mercedes St towards the Temecula Parkway and follow the path along the Santa Margarita River. You will need to stick to the scenic trails and make sure to have plenty of water and snacks. This hike could take upwards of 10 hours, so plan accordingly. Once you reach Cristianitos Rd, follow the signs to San Mateo Campground.
