    The Remember Them: Champions for Humanity Monument, standing in Henry J. Kaiser Memorial Park, is a powerful tribute to individuals who have championed peace, freedom, and human rights. Designed by Oakland sculptor Mario Chiodo after 9/11, the monument features 25 diverse figures, including Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa. A New York City Fire Fighter was added in 2011, with a piece of World Trade Center rubble interred inside as a lasting reminder of the tragic event.The monument is designed in four sections and cast in 60,000 pounds of bronze, standing 31 feet high and 52 feet long. It marks the first time international champions have been depicted together in a single monument dedicated to all of humanity. A visually impaired wall allows those with sight impairments to explore the characters through touch, with bronze castings and quotations in Braille and large print. The monument also includes fourteen interlocking figures on the backside, representing local champions and symbolizing the seven continents.Visiting Remember Them offers a space for reflection on the impact of these influential individuals and their contributions to the world. The monument serves as an educational landmark, inspiring visitors to contemplate the values of peace, justice, and equality.
