Discover more about Mrs. Bun Roeung’s Ancient House

Mrs. Bun Roeung's Ancient House, located in Wat Kor village, stands as a testament to Cambodia's rich architectural and cultural history. Built in the early 1900s, the house belonged to a wealthy Chinese merchant and has been maintained by the family for generations. Constructed from rare tropical hardwoods, the stilt house exemplifies rural Cambodian architecture from the colonial period. The house measures 29 meters in length and 10.5 meters in width and is built in the 'Pet' style, featuring verandahs at the front and sides. The walls are made of woven bamboo and plaster, while 36 pillars of Phcheuk wood support the structure. Inside, the house is divided into three sections: the verandahs, a spacious living room, and the bedrooms and kitchen. During the Khmer Rouge regime, the house was used as a communal kitchen and for storing heavy equipment, which caused some damage. Today, visitors can explore the house and its surroundings, including the lush gardens with orchid gardens and palm trees. Guided tours in English and French are available, providing insights into the history of the house and the family's traditions.
