Discover more about Elephant Pond-Srah Damrei

Srah Damrei, also known as Elephant Pond, is an archaeological site located in Phnom Kulen National Park, about 5.5 km southwest of Anlong Thom village. This remote and peaceful site features a collection of large animal monoliths carved from natural sandstone, believed to date back to the 8th or 9th century. The site includes sculptures of an elephant, two lions, and an unidentified figure, possibly a frog, along with a bull (Nandin). These sculptures offer a glimpse into the artistic style of the Khmer civilization. The elephant sculpture, in particular, stands out as a significant piece of ancient Khmer art. Researchers suggest that inscriptions found at the site may date back to the pre-Angkorian era. From the cliff edge near the sculptures, visitors can enjoy views of the plains below and the developing city of Run Ta Ek. A modern steel shelter south of the site serves as a small pagoda or prayer hall. The serene atmosphere of Elephant Pond makes it an ideal place for leisurely walks and appreciating the natural beauty of the area.
