Travel Guide to Central Sanctuary

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from the provincial capital of Preah Vihear, take National Road 64 heading northeast. Continue for about 45 kilometers until you reach the junction at Stung Treng. Turn left onto National Road 63 and follow the signs for the Central Sanctuary. After approximately 20 kilometers, you will arrive at a fork; take the right road leading to the Cause Way. Follow the Cause Way for about 5 kilometers until you reach the Central Sanctuary. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, as the roads can be bumpy.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Central Sanctuary via public transport, start at the Preah Vihear bus station. Board a bus heading towards Stung Treng. The fare is approximately $5. After about one hour, get off at the junction with National Road 63. From here, you can hire a local tuk-tuk (around $10-15) to take you directly to the Central Sanctuary. The ride will take about 30 minutes. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand.

• Tuk-tuk

  If you are already in a nearby town or area, you can hire a tuk-tuk directly to Central Sanctuary. The fare will vary depending on your starting point, but expect to pay between $15 to $25 for a round trip. It’s advisable to arrange for the tuk-tuk driver to wait for you while you explore the site. Ensure you agree on the total price and the waiting time before starting your journey.

• Walking

  If you are staying nearby and prefer to walk, head towards the Cause Way from your location. The route will take you through the local village, providing a chance to experience the local culture. Make sure to wear comfortable footwear and bring water, as the walk could take approximately 1-2 hours depending on your pace.
