Thommanon, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a captivating Hindu temple dating back to the 12th century. Constructed during the reign of King Suryavarman II, around the same period as Angkor Wat, it exemplifies classical Khmer architectural style. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu deities Shiva and Vishnu.Located just east of Angkor Thom's Victory Gate and north of Chau Say Tevoda, Thommanon is renowned for its well-preserved sandstone carvings, especially the devatas (female deities) adorned with intricate jewelry and traditional Khmer attire. The temple's single tower, complete with a central sanctuary facing east, showcases the architectural sophistication of the era. French archaeologists undertook extensive restoration in the 1960s, contributing to the temple's excellent condition.Thommanon offers a tranquil escape from the crowds, allowing visitors to appreciate the intricate details and spiritual ambiance of this ancient site.
