Limbe Wildlife Centre: A Sanctuary for Rescued Wildlife

Nestled in Limbe, Cameroon, the Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) stands as a beacon of hope for animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Founded in 1993 as a collaboration between the Cameroonian government and the Pandrillus Foundation, the LWC provides a sanctuary for orphaned, injured, and abused animals. Unlike a traditional zoo, the LWC focuses on rehabilitating animals with the goal of releasing them back into the wild whenever possible.The center is home to a diverse range of species, with a particular focus on primates. Visitors can observe gorillas, chimpanzees, drills, mandrills, baboons, and various monkey species living in enriched environments. The LWC also cares for other animals, including small carnivores, duikers, birds, and reptiles. Knowledgeable staff guide visitors through the center, offering insights into the challenges faced by these animals and the conservation efforts underway.The LWC plays a crucial role in conservation education, raising awareness about the importance of protecting Cameroon's natural heritage.
