Doual'art: A Hub for Contemporary Art in Douala

Doual'art, established in 1991, stands as a beacon for contemporary art in Douala, Cameroon. This non-profit cultural organization is dedicated to exploring the relationship between art and urban development, offering a platform for both Cameroonian and international artists. Located in the Bonanjo neighborhood, specifically at Place du Gouvernement, Doual'art operates from a space within the former cinema of the Palace of Douala Kings, a property belonging to the Douala Bell family. This location, referred to as Espace doual'art, serves as an exhibition space and gallery. Since its inception, Doual'art has been committed to supporting artists interested in urban issues through research and practice. The center hosts an average of eight exhibitions annually, showcasing contemporary artists from various nationalities. Beyond the gallery space, Doual'art extends its reach into the public sphere, inviting artists to engage with the urban landscape of Douala through site-specific projects.
