The Majestic Pont sur le Wouri: A Bridge of Wonders

Getting There

• Bike

  Start your journey from the center of Douala. Rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Akwa. Head west toward the Bonabéri area. Follow Avenue des États Unis until you reach the roundabout at Rue de l'Indépendance. Take the second exit onto Rue de Bonabéri. Continue straight for about 6 km, passing through local markets and enjoying the scenery. You will eventually see the bridge appearing in the distance. Keep riding until you reach Pont sur le Wouri, which is marked by a scenic view of the river.

• Bicycle Taxi (Bicycle Taxis)

  Find a bicycle taxi (often called 'bici-taxi') in Douala, usually located at busy intersections or near markets. Negotiate a fare to take you to Bonabéri, specifically asking for Pont sur le Wouri. The driver will know the area and will take you directly to the bridge. The ride should take around 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.

• Walking

  If you are up for a long walk, you can start from Akwa. Head toward Rue de la Liberté and continue toward the Bonabéri area. It’s approximately 8 km, so wear comfortable shoes. Walk along Rue de Bonabéri, enjoying the local atmosphere. Stay along the riverfront as you approach Pont sur le Wouri. You’ll know you’re close when you start to see the bridge from a distance.

• Public Transport (Bus)

  Locate the nearest bus stop and take a bus heading towards Bonabéri. Buses are frequent, but be prepared for crowded conditions. Once you reach Bonabéri, disembark at the last stop. From there, ask locals for directions to Pont sur le Wouri; it should be a short walk of about 10-15 minutes from the bus stop.
