The Musée des Civilisations de Dschang is more than just a museum; it's a gateway to understanding the soul of Cameroon. Officially established in 2011, this cultural center was born from an international collaboration between the cities of Dschang and Nantes, with significant involvement from the Cameroonian diaspora. The museum's architecture, designed by Sylvain Djache Nzefa, incorporates strong regional symbols such as the spider, buffalo, and elephant, and welcomes visitors in multiple Cameroonian languages. Spanning 1200m², the museum is designed as an interpretation center to promote intercultural dialogue and understanding, highlighting the history and cultural richness of Cameroon. Inside, visitors can explore over 500 objects, explanatory panels, and audiovisual displays that narrate Cameroon's history from prehistoric times to the present day, including the slave trade, triple colonization, and independence. The museum also showcases the diverse peoples of Cameroon, including those from the forest, the coast, the Sudan-Sahel region, and the West. Exhibits feature traditional clothing, tools, and artwork, illustrating the daily lives, beliefs, and customs of various ethnic groups. The museum regularly hosts cultural activities and events, making it a dynamic and engaging space for all. Located on the edge of the municipal lake, visitors can also enjoy nautical activities around the museum.
