Discover more about Phare de Cap Gaspé

The Cap Gaspé Lighthouse, French for “Land’s End” (Bout du Monde), stands as a beacon at the extreme southern point of the Forillon Peninsula. For over a century and a half, this lighthouse has been a crucial navigational aid, marking the transition between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Bay of Gaspé. The original lighthouse, a wooden structure built in 1873, was destroyed by fire. It was replaced in 1892 by a second wooden lighthouse. Due to harsh weather conditions, a third lighthouse, the concrete tower that stands today, was erected in 1950. The current lighthouse is 9 meters tall. Today, the Cap Gaspé Lighthouse is accessible via the Les Graves trail, a multi-use path suitable for both hiking and cycling. The trail offers stunning views of the coastline, pebble beaches, and coves. The site itself provides interpretive elements that highlight the historical significance of the lighthouse and its contribution to maritime safety. While the lighthouse is not open to the public, the surrounding area offers a chance to experience the natural beauty and rugged landscape of Forillon National Park.
