Discover more about La maison Dolbel-Roberts

La Maison Dolbel-Roberts, located on Boulevard de Grande-Grève in Gaspé, is a significant landmark offering a glimpse into the past. Constructed around 1915, the house is an example of vernacular American architecture, specifically the cubic house style popular in Quebec from the late 19th century to the 1940s. The house was initially owned by Alfred Henry Dolbel, a clerk at Fruing, before being sold to George Roberts, a farmer and fisherman from a pioneer family of the Forillon Peninsula. The Roberts family, along with George's wife, Alice Piton, resided in the house for many years. The house remained within the Dolbel-Roberts family until the creation of Forillon National Park in 1971, when the families living on the territory were expropriated. Today, La Maison Dolbel-Roberts stands as a testament to the region's cultural heritage. It has been renovated to host the exhibit “Gaspesians from Land's End”, which explores the lives of those who once inhabited the Forillon Peninsula and the diverse cultural mosaic they created. The exhibit also sheds light on the expropriation episode during the park's creation. The house is accompanied by an old barn, adding to the historical ambiance of the site.
