Discover more about The Ring

Located at the Esplanade PVM, The Ring is more than just a sculpture; it's a symbol of Montreal's connection to its past, present, and future. Unveiled in 2022 as part of Place Ville Marie's $200 million revitalization project, this 30-meter diameter stainless steel ring weighs over 23,000 kilograms. Designed by Claude Cormier + Associés, the same team behind other urban renewal projects in Montreal, The Ring provides a fresh take on the modernist grid of Place Ville Marie. The Ring frames a unique view, establishing a visual line from the Queen Elizabeth Hotel and Esplanade PVM to McGill University, the former Royal Victoria Hospital, and Mount Royal. In the evenings, the Ring's illumination mirrors that of the Mount Royal Cross, further emphasizing the historic bond of the city's heritage. The sculpture is heated to prevent snow buildup and equipped with vibration dampers to withstand high winds and earthquakes. The Esplanade PVM, where The Ring is located, also features improved pedestrian access, a modernized shopping mall, and a reconfigured underground entrance to public transit.
