Discover more about The Biosphere, Environment Museum

The Montréal Biosphere is more than just a museum; it's a symbol of innovation and environmental awareness. Housed in the striking geodesic dome designed by Buckminster Fuller for the 1967 World Expo, the Biosphere has become a landmark in Montréal. Originally the United States pavilion, the structure was donated to the city after Expo 67. For a time, it served as an aviary and hosted various exhibitions. A fire in 1976 destroyed its outer acrylic layer, leaving only the steel frame. In 1995, it was reborn as an environment museum, dedicated to exploring the connections between society and the environment. Inside, visitors can engage with interactive exhibits focusing on climate change, water ecosystems, air quality, and sustainable development. The Biosphere's unique architecture and its mission to promote environmental stewardship make it a compelling destination for tourists and locals alike. The museum also presents temporary art installations and hosts multidisciplinary projects in environmental education. The Biosphere is part of the Espace pour la vie museum network, which includes the Biodôme, Jardin botanique, Insectarium, and Planétarium.
